About Us
Our Story
A historic stable on the Monon Trail has become a living hub for builders, artists, entrepreneurs, and founders. At Polk Stables, craft and community work side by side—where ideas are imagined, built, and shared. Once a dairy plant that moved milk across Indianapolis by horse-drawn wagons, the building now moves skills, creativity, and culture through the city.
Today, the same walls that bottled milk now bottle momentum. Inside, you’ll find studios, offices, event spaces, and a podcast suite, all designed for collaboration and progress. Polk Stables hosts design sprints, residencies, gatherings, and showcases that connect visionaries with opportunity.
Here, the past gives power to the present. Collaborate. Create. Climb. The future is local—and we’re building it together.

Our community dna
Polk Stables is built around three core ideas that shape how we
gather, build, and grow together as a community.
These ideas influence not just what we do here, but how we show
up for one another, our work, and our neighborhood.
Imagination
We believe meaningful work starts with imagination — the ability to see what could be built, improved, or restored for the good of others and the city around us. Polk exists to create a place where ideas, businesses, and people grow with purpose and possibility.
Formation
We believe growth isn't just about scaling work — it's about becoming people who lead, build, and serve with greater purpose, clarity, and intention. The work matters, but who we become along the way matters just as much, and Polk is built to support both.
Community
We believe people build better together. Community at Polk isn't just a shared space or a networking group — it's practiced through generosity, participation, and care for one another and the neighborhood, creating a place where relationships and meaningful work can grow.
Empowering Local Makers and Entrepreneurs
We help people do good work, right here. We connect craft to community, and small starts to steady growth.

Who belongs here
Makers and artists. Solo founders and small teams. Freelancers who want community. Students and apprentices who want a first step. Neighbors who are ready to learn, share, and build with care.
from big ideas to bigger impact
As these rooms once readied horse-drawn crews, we prepare today’s makers and founders with space, tools, and guidance to carry their work into the city.

Conveniently located in the heart of the city
At the Monon & 16th corridor—restoring a community anchor and opening it to everyday builders.
Where history meets innovation
135 years ago, teams of horses pulled Polk’s wagons from these stables to serve the city. Today, we are ready to launch new teams of makers and founders who carry their work into the world. The stables at Polk did not produce the milk; the cows did. In the same spirit, this place does not claim the credit; people do. We are here to prepare, equip, and cheer, then make room for the work to speak.
The Story Behind Our Name
The milk came from cows. The stables readied the teams that pulled the wagons. Our name remembers a place built to prepare work that serves a city, and we keep doing exactly that.
